Week Two
This week went by really fast it feels like. Almost a total blur. I kept up my JS learning pretty well, missed on Friday because of just being overly tired for some reason. I've been exploring the Code Academy website a bit and have found their projects which is just simple projects with tutorials on how to make them. I've found out about how if statements work and also about functions. I think I was talking about loop functions before but actually realized that it probably won't even be that needed since the game wouldn't move without user input. Now I'm hoping it shows me something to do with graphics in the remaining 39% of the course. If not, that's fine, there's some other learning courses for something called "Phaser" which seems to be another type of mini engine or library I guess it would be called.
I'll admit, I've been having to look at the hints more than I'd like to be, and it's a little discouraging, but I'm thinking once I'm actually through the course and getting code down It'll begin to come more naturally. So with that being said, What games have I been playing? Well, I've been playing Balatro a lot this last week; another roguelike but this one has a high focus on unloockables similar to The Binding of Isaac where you unlock better items (jokers) for the next run. I enjoy playing it but losing is really dissatisfying because it always feels like I'm losing to bad luck versus a skill issue, which is probably only 60% correct, I'm definitely not the best cards player. But the point I bring this up in such detail is because I had the idea to incorporate something unlockable in a similar sort of spirit.
The main idea for this is to have a bunch of lore pages the player would collect and each page would have a code on it. Well once the entire collection of pages are collected and you enter the code it could reveal special floors to explore with unique items and enemies. Just something weird and different for the continuous players. It's really just a spitball since it would probably be a lot more complex than just that but it was on my mind so here it is on paper. I don't believe I added anything anywhere else, and to be honest I've been thinking I should add to this more often and just post it at the end of the week instead of writing it all down, because yeah, I'm feeling like I'm forgetting things.
Well anyway, that's about it for this week. Just Continuing my learning. With the pace I'm at I should be either finished with the course or almost finished with the course by next post, so we'll see what I learn by then.
